Exciting updates to Early Learning: Flexible, clearer, more accessible

We're delighted to announce the launch of our updated Early Learning syllabus, designed to make the first steps in performance even more accessible and enjoyable for our youngest performers. We haven't changed any requirements – we've simply made everything more flexible, clearer, and more accessible. This new version focuses on simplifying names and structures while enhancing the options available to you and your young performers.

What's new?

Simplified and streamlined

We've simplified the naming structure to make Early Learning easier to understand and navigate. From 1 July 2025, there's just one Early Learning subject – no more separate designations for Music and Drama. Young performers can still choose to shine with either a song or a spoken verse, giving them the freedom to showcase their unique talents.

Enhanced Group Performance options

Introducing Early Learning Group Stage 3 – perfect for celebrating those special school plays or other group performances you've already been working on. Whether it's a performance we can assess in person or a recording you send to us, we're here to recognise and celebrate collaborative creativity.

More assessment flexibility

All Early Learning assessments can now be completed:

  • In-person with one of our friendly examiners
  • Recorded at your convenience using our digital platform

Clearer assessment framework

For the first time, assessment criteria are included directly in the syllabus, giving teachers, parents, and young performers a clearer understanding of what makes a successful Early Learning journey.

Individual recognition in group settings

While Early Learning Group assessments celebrate the magic of performing together, every young performer receives their own individual certificate – because every child's contribution matters.

What stays the same?

The heart of Early Learning remains unchanged. We're still committed to creating positive first experiences in performance for children aged 3 to 6, fostering confidence through encouragement and celebrating every small step forward.

Important note

Early Learning Spoken English is being withdrawn, as the standard Early Learning subject offers a very similar assessment pathway and it’s available in all formats (in-person and recorded)
