Performance Awards
Important update
Effective 01/12/24, LCME Performance Awards will no longer be available as an exam option for any subject. Entries made before that date will be processed as usual.
As an alternative, the following performance-only digital exams remain available. These are regulated qualifications that carry UCAS points to support entry to university in the UK:
- Recorded Recital Grades: Candidates perform four pieces, each accounting for 20% of the final score. All four pieces must be chosen from a set repertoire list. For the final 20%, candidates can present either a recorded discussion or an additional piece of their own choosing.
- Recorded Leisure Play: Candidates perform four pieces, each accounting for 25% of the final score. Candidates must choose three pieces from the set list and an additional piece of their own choosing.
Candidates looking to take a similar exam in Musical Theatre for Actors can enter the Concert or Cabaret Recorded exam options.
Recorded Exams continue to be a great digital option for candidates taking Musical Theatre for Singers, Acoustic, Electric, Rock Guitar and Ukulele, and all other subjects.
Please review each subject’s syllabus carefully, as options may differ based on the instrument and level.
About LCME Performance Awards
Performance Awards provide a new opportunity for assessing musical performance. Candidates submit a recording of their performance rather than attending an examination venue. They are performance-only assessments, and candidates may enter at any time of the year.
Performances are assessed by trained LCME examiners using the same standards and criteria used for the standard graded exams. This offers candidates a reliable and independent assessment of their performance standard while benefiting from the flexibility allowed by the submission process.
The awards also allow candidates to have their performances assessed externally before taking a graded examination.

Entering for a Performance Award
There are two options:
- Online: complete an online form where you will be able to upload your work and pay the exam fee online
- Paper entry: download an entry form, post your completed form, the fee and your work to the LCME office
